FROM THE PRESIDENT’S DESK

Dear Members and friends,

Namaste! The buzzwords this year are – Entertainment! Entertainment! Entertainment! The Association is hosting two sizzling entertainment programs for its members and friends in April. The first of these is a “Musical Nite” with acclaimed vocal sensation – Gopi Kamath from Dubai on April 21, 2012 at the Express Event Center located at 8512 Northwest Expressway in Oklahoma City. Tickets for what promises to be an unforgettable “Musical Nite’ are $25 for members and $35 for non-members. Tickets for children under twelve years of age will be $10. We welcome all members and friends to join us in celebrating a night of Indian Music from an acclaimed singer that we know so well.

Also, based on popular demand, I am happy to announce that after a gap of nearly two years, the Association will host a “Kavi Sammelan” on April 28th 2012. The event will be held at the Gujarati Samaj’s premises located at 2900 N Santa Fe in Oklahoma City. The Executive Committee has also finalized dates for the Association’s other regular annual events. These are:

1. ‘Picnic’ June 2nd 2012 from 5:30pm to 9:00pm     at Andrews park in Norman.

2. ‘Mela on August 25th from 5:30 to 9:00 pm at the Stars and Stripe Park in Oklahoma City

3. ‘Diwali’ on November 17th at the Rose State College.

The 2012 Members’ Directories are under preparation and we hope to mail these to you by the end of March 2012. If you have not renewed your membership yet, please do so urgently to ensure that the Directory is mailed out at the earliest.

I urge all of you to become involved with IAOK in whatever capacity you prefer. The IAOK is strong because of your support and contributions!

Indu Singh

President

Dear Members and friends,

Your executive committee has been working hard to raise the tempo this year. Thus far, we have had two movie showings (Jodha Akbar and Sholay), and a well attended Kavi Sammelan (April 17, 2010). The Association also put up a booth and performances in the competitive and demonstration segments at the Asia Society of Oklahoma’s 24th Annual Asian Festival on Saturday May 9, 2010 at the Cox Convention Center in downtown Oklahoma City. We are working feverishly to bring you an evening filled with Indian instrumental (Sitar and Tabla) music on May 28, 2010. I encourage all members to attend and make it a grand success. Details of the event are attached.

To provide relief from the summer heat, preparations are on in full swing for “Summer Fest 2010” in Norman at the Andrews Park on June 12th, 2010, and the “Indian Mela” on August 7th at the Stars and Stripes park at Lake Hefner in Oklahoma City. Diwali Nite on November 6, 2010 at the Rose State College in Midwest City, and additional Movies are also in the planning stages.

We continue to try to raise the bar in the current year. I solicit the support of all members in this effort. I would like each member to be a “brand ambassador” and help in expanding the membership base of the Association. Please encourage all your friends and acquaintances that are not yet members to become members and enjoy all the benefits of membership. With the generous support of members we can accomplish more in our mission to keep Indian traditions and culture alive in Oklahoma.

We need the cooperation and support of all members.

Sincerely,

Rakesh Prasad

President
